“Half the air”, half the balloons!

British artist Martin Creed has been filling rooms with balloon since 1998 – that year he first presented his installation “Half the air in a given space“. For this site-specific installation, Creed fills half the space of a room with balloons, giving tangible form to something that’s usually invisible: the air around you. This lively artwork is meant to be enjoyed as you walk through it and not just viewed from outside. Created with adults, not children in mind, the installation has been recreated over in over again in many different locations, every time using the balloons with the same colour in one space.

Art and science don’t get much fun that this, don’t they?
