As part of the 2012 Festival Arbres en Lumière, an outdoor tree light festival in Geneva, Switzerland, artist Cédric Le Borgne installed a pair of large birds on a tree somewhere near Rue de la Fontaine (if this gives anyone an idea, unfortunately, I have not been in Geneva myself, but I’d imagine this would be in the city centre). I like the idea, as there is something particularly attractive in the festivals of lights, and all the forms of the artwork are always surprising and impressive. But in this case I also like the title – Le Désir et la Menace which is Desire and Threat – does it relate to human desire to fly or the threat that some mischievous pigeon will want to stain your coat? or maybe it relates to something completely different, but still it’s humorous and ingenious.
The birds were constructed from wire and lit from below, giving the forms a glowing, weightless appearance.
